The leather is full grain, the outermost layer of the hide with its surface left intact. It protects the ring on the way to the question, and afterwards it keeps working: as a travel case for rings, earrings or a necklace, small enough for any bag.
The stitching is done by hand, and like all our vegetable-tanned leather, the case darkens and softens with the years — a keepsake from the day, carried long after it.
